Recently many illegal immigrants have been released into
the US by Federal Immigration officials to save the government money. The
immigrants still have deportation cases that will remain in court (nytimes.com).
“It’s abhorrent that President Obama is releasing
criminals into our communities to promote his political agenda on sequestration,
by releasing criminal immigrants onto the streets, the administration is
needlessly endangering American lives.” (Representative Robert W. Goodlatte, chairman of the Judiciary Committee)
Goodlatte, among other republicans are angry with Obama, and think it is his
scheme to deal with the immigration negotiation. Detaining illegal immigrants in
the US is very expensive. The cost could be reduced by about $100-$150(National Immigration Forum).
I have no personal involvement in
illegal immigration. I think that it is sad that so many good people are
detained for fleeing the terrible situations in their countries and coming to
America “the promise land” and being detained. It is unfair that many people
have to illegally enter the US, because their own countries won’t cooperate and
let them come here. Fortunately this article had no bias, because I enjoyed
learning more about this event and illegal immigration, and I may not have read
it if the author’s opinions leaked into his article. I think this is a god way
for the government to save money, but I think the immigration officials should
look into alternative cheaper ways of detainment.
